Fujifilm X-H2

The Fujifilm X-H2, introduced in 2022, is the flagship of Fuji's H-series, thus also of its APS-C cameras. It shares the X Processor 5 image processor with its sister model X-H2S, as well as most of the features, including a sharp OLED viewfinder (EVF), a rotating and swiveling display, and the combination of SD and CFexpress memory cards (type B).

Main difference: while the X-H2 uses the X-Trans CMOS 5 HR image sensor with a record-breaking 40 megapixels of resolution in the APS-C form factor, the X-H2S comes in at just 26 megapixels. The built-in image stabilizer allows up to seven stops longer shutter speeds in both cameras, and in the case of the X-H2 with Pixelshift Multi Shot enabled, the ability to capture 160-megapixel photos.

The higher-resolution Fujifilm X-H2 still manages 20 frames per second in continuous shooting mode, while its sister model X-H2S, which is more geared towards sports and wildlife, doubles to a whopping 40 fps. No matter which of the two combinations: It's a lot of data, waiting to be saved. Using slower cards, the rather larger image buffer stills fills up in a few seconds and/or takes over a minute to empty afterwards. Thankfully, Fujifilm provides both cameras with a slot for CFexpress and SD memory cards each, the latter with UHS-II support.

SD or CFexpress cards for the Fujifilm X-H2(S)?

If you are looking for maximum speed, pick CFexpress memory cards. It's simple as that. Meanwhile, CFexpress cards are no longer more expensive than high-quality SD memory cards, but in the case of the Fujifilm X-H2, about five times as quick. We were able to measure over one gigabyte per second in-camera write speed from the best CFexpress Type B models – the buffer memory is practically hardly used at all and empty almost immediately after releasing the shutter.

But the slower SD memory cards can also serve their purpose, at least cheaper UHS-II models. When it comes to video recordings, the Fujifilm X-H2 and X-H2S are quite easy to handle. See: SD memory cards for the Fujifilm X-H2(S).
